Pavlov's Dog

Duh-da-dunt-da-duh…  How many times have we heard the theme for Hockey Night in Canada over the years?  A bazillion?  It’s probably the most recognized song (next to the national anthem) in the country (with apologies to Nickleback – although all of their songs pretty much sound the same, so the cumulative effect may be right up there).

Save Hockey Night in Canada's Theme Song

It's iconic.  4 bars of music that define an important cultural part of Canadian life -- the opening notes of the Hockey Night in Canada theme song.

As the NHL season ended this week it was revealed by a Toronto licensing company that the CBC is about to drop the four decade old, time-honoured HNIC theme song.

The List - Boycott Beijing, Txt Wthdrwls, and New Music

- It's 136 days until the Summer Olympics in Beijing. And, with apologies to our country's athletes who've trained so hard to get there, it's time for Canada to say we're not making the trip.

And so we begin...

Freeze

The deep freeze is here, and looks like it is here to stay. That likely menas no lights on the house. (I'm glad my wife doesn't read this blog)

I can't believe the Moore/Bertuzzi story has resurfaced. It was almost three years ago that Bertuzzi attacked Moore on the ice, and left him with a broken neck and concussion.

Not My 'Country Canada'

In December 2000, Canada's broadcast regulator green-lighted dozens of new television services to operate on digital cable and satellite services.

21 of those channels (16 english and 5 french) were awarded the special designation of receiving mandatory carriage by television service providers.  The genres of these channels were chosen as ones deemed so important that they deserved an enshrined 'digital presence' for the audience they planned to serve.  Regardless of the provider, if they offered digital cable, they had to add the channels.

Who Created The NHL Schedule?

I found it funny watching the Hockey Night in Canada doubleheader on CBC this past Saturday and found that neither game was played in Canada. The first game was the Leafs at Madison Square Garden to play the Rangers followed by Edmonton at Los Angeles. Upon further inspection, I saw that there were no games played in Canada on Saturday night. Its bad enough that Hockey Day in Canada gets screwed up this year thanks to Gary Bettman and his stupid schedule-making now a Saturday night in which our beloved game and our beloved program doesn't see Saturday night hockey in our country.
