Is it just me, or do Canadian hockey fans tend to give off that 'slighted yet hopeful ex-boyfriend' vibe? 

I say this after spending 30 minutes on the elliptical tonight at the gym.  There, I found myself gritting my teeth as I watched barbeque-mastering, red-state inhabiting, Dubya-loving Texans bounce up and down, cheering on their beloved Minnesota North... er... Dallas Stars. 

Then, I caught myself. 

Yep... that's a packed arena.  Yep... that's a sold out crowd.  Yep... they understand the game.  And yep... they support their team.

If you want an indication of just how much hockey has been emasculated by earnest do-gooders, look no further than the Sean Avery incident.

Let's not kid ourselves. In Saskatchewan, the NHL's post season means one thing.....Rider training camp is getting closer. Hold on Rider Nation. Just two more months before training camp gets under way for the beloved Riders. Let's get to the thing that matters around here. 

But, in the meantime let's talk hockey.

I have an appreciation for what Susan, my wife, must go through having to live with 3 boys. (2 sons and me.) The boys are 15 and 12. We were at my youngest son's Christmas concert last night at his school. As his class passed right by our seats to go to the stage the 15 year old whispered to the 12 year old...."Loser". All three of us, even the 12 year old, laughed. Susan rolled her eyes. Ah....Christmas. I'll admit it, I'm 40 going on 4. It keeps me young.

Have a look at Friday's highlights between Dallas and Ottawa off of TSN. In the intermission some nine year old players were having a shootout. This 9 year old named Matts Gerlach scored an amazing goal.

The deep freeze is here, and looks like it is here to stay. That likely menas no lights on the house. (I'm glad my wife doesn't read this blog)

I can't believe the Moore/Bertuzzi story has resurfaced. It was almost three years ago that Bertuzzi attacked Moore on the ice, and left him with a broken neck and concussion.

Eric Lindros should go into the Hockey Hall of Fame! Upon his retirement from the game, the big "E" got some well-deserved praise from his old General Manager. Bobby Clarke(who I totaly respect and admire) put his harsh feelings for Lindros aside and acknowledged that number 88 does indeed deserved to be inducted. Lindros had a great career which was sloed and cut short by injuries. Did he ever live up to the billing of being the next Wayne Gretzky?
