What a gorgeous Sunday. My 16 year old son and I made the drive from Saskatoon to Regina for day one of training camp. There was well over one thousand fans inside the park, and outside the park as well, as fans had the chance to pick up their season tickets and get a look at the Riders for the upcoming season. Here are a few observations.
-Receiver Weston Dressler is the real deal. He made some spectacular catches on day one.
It's the opening night of the Stanley Cup playoffs. You know that means.
Let's not kid ourselves. In Saskatchewan, the NHL's post season means one thing.....Rider training camp is getting closer. Hold on Rider Nation. Just two more months before training camp gets under way for the beloved Riders. Let's get to the thing that matters around here.
But, in the meantime let's talk hockey.

Rider fans are ticked. I get that. How could this team trade the Grey Cup MVP less than four months after winning the Grey Cup? When looking at what the Riders received in return, it would appear the Argos fleeced the Green and White. Nothing against defensive end Ronald Flemons or offensive tackle Glenn January, but neither one will likely be a Grey Cup MVP.
This just in
Here are the blue prints for Regina's new dome for the Riders!.
It's just after 10pm on the Saturday before Super Bowl. I can not believe how many people I have run in to that believe the Giants have a shot. Tom Brady is a better quarterback than Eli Manning, the Patriots have more Super Bowl experience than the Giants, and New York has made some big mistakes this season. If the Patriots win by less than the 11 and a half points then the Giants should be thankful. Manning, Amani Toomer, Aaron Ross and Lawrence Tynes will have to wait their turn. They will get their shot.
What a wide range of emotions this province is going through! Some are bitter about Kent Austin leaving, the majority I have talked to are thankful, and some fear the future for the Saskatchewan Roughriders. Personally, I didn't see this coming. With many of the Ole Miss candidates having NCAA experience, I didn't think Austin would be the man for the Rebels. But he is, and it's time for us to move on.
It's always sad to learn of someone's passing. I watched my brother die a few years back because of cancer. It was a tough thing, yet there were blessings too. No more suffering, no more pain. Friday we learned that Chris Knox died of cancer. To state the obvious, Chris was way too young. The blessing here is he lived to see his long time team, the Riders, win the Grey Cup last month. It meant alot to him. For those that don't "get" why we follow the Riders so closely, five minutes with Chris would have fixed that.
